Perils of Petroleum

So here’s a little bit of news:

Petroleum is a liquid solution of hydrocarbons that is extracted and found in substances like gasoline, kerosene, and diesel fuel. Petroleum was originally found at the bottom of oil rigs waste bins in the 1800s when substance regulations were unheard of, and if it was discovered now the same was it was then, then it would have stayed in the waste bins. This substance can be extremely dangerous to breathe in, as it can cause cancers, damage fibers of collagen and elastin in your body, and if you’re exposed to it, it’s hard to take off- you can barely even rid yourself of it when you try to detoxify your body.
So why would you put Petroleum on your face?

Of course, the answer is probably “but I WOULDN’T put Petroleum on my skin!” yet petroleum is a common active ingredient in skincare products like lotions or facial moisturizers. Dangerous and harmful, it’s still used in substances such as “petroleum jelly,” which are commonly used in almost every households. That’s right: this oil-rig waste that can cause cancer, and it’s used every day. If you haven’t already checked your skincare products, you could have put it on today.

Ew.
There's really no sense in using petroleum-anything and running the risk of getting anything that it can cause when there are other, better, petroleum-free options that are healthier and will probably feel better on your skin. Natural alternatives like cocoa butter, sweet almond oil, essential oils, and jojoba oil can help moisten the skin and heal any ailments you have without running the risk of dangerous chemical exposure.
Oh, and our body butters, lotions, and moisturizers don’t contain petroleum. They all contain healthy, organic botanicals like jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, and other natural ingredients. They moisturize better too, as many contain the advanced liposome complex that allows skin to recognize and absorb the beneficial substances.
