Is it time to stop talking about coconut oil?

If you’re anything like us, you’ve already said yes. You don’t even need to read this article. (But please do.) Between paleo cooking and the push for ‘natural beauty,’ coconut oil has been an endless topic of discussion. Some of the women we associate with are now even using it as a cleanser. Um, no thanks. But to each their own.

However, like Moroccan oil before it, we know it was only a matter of months before coconut oil’s time in the spotlight was over, and indeed, it appears that time has arrived. Behold the next oil you have to pretend to really care about:

Papaya oil

We’re already giving papaya oil the edge over coconut oil because the fruit itself is chock full of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and phytochemicals, all of which are good for you and your skin. It even contains carotenoids, which will literally help your skin glow from the inside out.

Where to find papaya oil

It hasn’t yet broken out the way coconut oil has, but soon enough you’ll be seeing it in all sorts of face products ranging from moisturizing to acne-fighting. While it will probably most frequently be called papaya oil, on imported products you’ll also see the names Papaw and Paw Paw.

Do I really need to incorporate any kind of oil into my skin care routine?

A hearty nope from us! We’ll tell you upfront that we don’t use any sort of oil. We did experiment with coconut oil as a hair moisturizer, but ultimately went back to our Argan oil. And as a facial product? We’re just not willing to risk oiling up our pores. Instead, we make sure to get that all-important moisture from a moisturizer like Gratiae’s Ultrox Expression Marks Anti-Wrinkle Cream which you can benefit more from. Thermo-mineral water with natural, restorative flora in a highly-concentrated anti-aging cream? We’ll take that every time.
