When to switch up your skin care routine

We’ve done a little research on this. Actually we’ve done a lot of research on this, we just didn’t want to sound like sad weirdos who spend all day looking up skin care issues on the internet and calling dermatologists to try and get them to answer a quick question before hanging up on us. Uh, secret’s out, we suppose.

Most women develop a true skin care routine in their mid to late twenties. Which is excellent. But as much as you may want to, you can’t keep that same skin care routine for the course of your life. As your skin ages, its needs change. Here’s when you want to switch it up a little.

In your 30’s

In your 30s you can keep your skin care routine largely the same as it was in your 20s. The only thing you’ll want to add in is a retinol or retin-A treatment for anti-aging. However, if you’re pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or breastfeeding, nix the retinol. Retinol, retinoids and retin-A is a whopping dose of Vitamin A, which is not optimal for babies, unborn or otherwise.

Around the age of 45

This is when you’re going to want to overhaul your skin care routine. Your collagen and elastin production is now dramatically different than it was in your 20s and 30s, and the aging effects of everything you’ve been exposed to in your life will start taking their toll. Your skin is simply needier now, so to make the most of your excellent looks, you’ll want to indulge those needs.
You don’t have to swap all your products at once for anti-aging versions. Start small, adding in anti-aging products like Gratiae’s Lifting Moisture Cream instead of your standard day cream. This fast-absorbing cream combats wrinkles and lines to firm the skin and even your tone.
