Feminism and expensive skin care products

As a proud feminist, we have to admit we’ve spent a good chunk of our life feeling conflicted. If we’re so into female empowerment, should we really love makeup as much as we do? Should we care so much about high heels and hair-styles? Should we really be spending as much as we do on skin care? Are these things that men would be expected to do? Are these things that men would think about?

Trust us when we tell you that we have exhausted this subject. We’ve also exhausted the people around us by talking endlessly about this subject. Allow us to let you in on our conclusions.

Looking good is our right

Yep. We skipped over privilege and went careening for right. In this 21st century, and in this free world we’re lucky enough to live in, we have every right to wear makeup, or to not wear makeup, or to spend $300 on moisturizer and $200 on a haircut and complain about hobbling around in 4-inch heels while continuing to hobble into 4-inch heels, or to pull on a pair of chunky tennis shoes if we so please.

Think about the societies in which women are not permitted to adorn themselves as they choose. Women living under Taliban rule, or the women who lived under the Third Reich. In societies like that, are women empowered? Are they encouraged to be out in the world, choosing to focus on their careers, choosing motherhood, choosing how they want to look and how they want to present themselves? No, they aren’t. But we are.

Appearing conventionally pretty or attractive via red lipstick and high heels is by no means a prerequisite for being a woman. That’s the beauty of it all. We can buy what we want, apply what we want, spend what we want, and look how we want. We’re going to celebrate with a jar of Gratiae’s Renewing Facial Peeling Gel. You’re free to celebrate however you’d like. But we would recommend the Renewing Facial Peeling Gel for tightening, brightening, and a youthful glow.
