Three Graces--the legend behind the legendary

Ancient civilizations—Greeks and Romans in particular--were known for being especially creative when it came to explaining natural phenomena such as the seasons, thunderstorms, the sun and the moon, and even love. These daughters became known as The Three Graces, and they have been the inspiration of painters and sculptors, who have immortalized them in great works of art.

 

The Three Graces were named Thalia, who represented youth and beauty; Euphrosyne, who symbolized mirth; and Aglaia, who personified elegance. Other versions gave them the attributes of beauty, youth, and charm, but in every version, they were always considered to be the epitome of beauty and grace.
