Three Graces--the legend behind the legendary

Ancient civilizations—Greeks and Romans in particular--were known for being especially creative when it came to explaining natural phenomena such as the seasons, thunderstorms, the sun and the moon, and even love. According to stories from these cultures, everything that happened could be attributed to, or blamed on, an assemblage of major and minor gods and goddesses.

Who’s their daddy?

Each mythological deity had control on a specific element of Nature, but Jupiter was the head guy, according to the Romans. He was very powerful, but not always morally perfect, and he “begat” three daughters with the nymph Eurynome. These daughters became known as The Three Graces, and they have been the inspiration of painters and sculptors, who have immortalized them in great works of art.

The Three Graces were named Thalia, who represented youth and beauty; Euphrosyne, who symbolized mirth; and Aglaia, who personified elegance. Other versions gave them the attributes of beauty, youth, and charm, but in every version, they were always considered to be the epitome of beauty and grace. When Hadrian, a second century Roman emperor, discovered a spring that seemed to have restorative properties, what better name to give it than “Gratiae,” for the Three Graces?

Timeless beauty

As soon as the hot spring’s existence was revealed, the Romans used it as a spa and enjoyed the benefits of its regenerative powers. As time marched on, the spring continued to provide the same richness of minerals that has restored a youthful complexion to generations of users. And now Gratiae takes this same thermo-mineral water and combines it with organic botanicals and oils in remarkable products such as the Gratiae Organics Ultrox Expression Marks Anti-Wrinkle Cream. With skin care products like these, Gratiae has somehow found the way to bring the timeless beauty of goddesses to us mere mortals.
